If you are renting a premises you are usually not allowed to make any alterations to the patio door. With the Portable pet door you do not need to. All alterations are done to the pet door.

Portable pet door is cheaper than a security door with a built in pet door. It is "user friendlier" because you do not need to keep the patio door open - something very practical in winter.

It is also cheaper than a standard pet door because you do not need to a call tradesman to install it, especially if you have a glass patio sliding door.

If you leave your pet at a friend's place while you are away for a few days you can install your pet door at his place.

This model of Portable Pet Door is designed to fit a great majority of sliding patio doors with a height of 204 cm without adjustments.
Even if your door is 206 cm it is possible to make minor height adjustment to Portable pet door to suit your sliding patio door.
When buying a Portable pet door let us know that you
need 10mm or 20mm extension. Extension is a 10mm thick strip of
plastic that will match in look and colour Portable pet door.

If your glass sliding door is 210 cm or more we can make extension to match ANY HIGHT . Extensions cost depending on the size.

Glass sliding door is sliding on top of a nib inside bottom track.
Hight of your door is the hight between top of that nib and top of
sliding door. Standard size is between 203 and 204 cm.

Vertical sides of top and bottom rail are holding a sliding door in
place and they also give support to the portable pet door.
Fly screen doors do not have same track as glass sliding door and they can not give support to the portable pet door unless an additional track
, or peace of it is inserted to give this extra support.
Gap between the top of the sliding door and top rail is important because it enables us to lift glass sliding door and if necessary take it out. The same is with portable pet door. If we want to fix the portable pet door so it can not be removed ( we call it semi permanent) we need to block this gap so the portable pet door can not be lifted and removed. This will also give additional stability to the portable pet door in everyday use and we recommend it.
We have designed metal cap that fits our pet doors and can be used to extend the panel height after the portable pet door has been installed making it semi permanent. This cap is not included in our standard package but can be purchased separately for only $6 + mailing but if ordered together with portable pet door there are no additional mailing costs.

The Portable pet door is made from 16mm thick white melamine . It is weather safe and .
Following your sugestions we have changed our flaps and instead of
obscure white acrylic we are using claer plexiglas.
Aldough all panels come with plastic edging , we have added extra
aluminium trims for extra strength.

If your sliding patio door is higher than 204 cm but not more than 206 cm , let us know and we will send you xtensions with the fitting kit.

Some doors are 2100mm or more . We can make any extension to suit your door .

Here is an example of how to extend the pet door by placing the extension peace at the bottom. Normaly you put the extension piece on top of the portable pet door panel. Procedure is exactly the same.

1. Drill 3 matching holes ( use 5 or 6 mm drill) 20mm deep , in pet door panel and in extension piece. .

2. Put timber dowels into the holes. ( It is good idea to buy the dowels first and then use appropriate drill size for drilling holes)

3. Attach the extension to the panel.

4. Add aluminium trims for extra strength and stability.

5. Finished . Extended pet door.

If your sliding patio door is shorter than 2040 mm, the Portable Patio Door can be simply cut using hand-saw to suit the height of your sliding door. You change your mind later ... you can still put the cut off piece back using timber dowels.

Dimensions of the pet flap are :

SMALL : 16.2 cm wide x 30cm high .
MEDIUM : 20.5 cm wide x 37cm high. - see photo below !

To test , open your sliding door to 16.2 cm ( or 20.5 cm for medium size) and encourage your dog to go through. If your dog can go through he will also be able to use the Portable ped door.
As the top hinge of the "small" flap sits approx. 45cm above floor it is not recommended for dogs with shoulder height more than 45 cm if outside area is on the same level as inside floor. For example .. If you have timber deck outside.
Usually there is a step down from inside to patio level which makes it easier , even for dogs above 45cm shoulderheight to use the Portable pet door.

If your dog is taller than 50 cm (shoulder height - not head height) but can fit through 16 cm wide opening but you do not want to go for a medium size pet door, it is posible to adjust the portable pet door to suit your dog. We can make the necessary adjustments but extra costs apply . If you have basic skills and tools we are happy to share our knowledge and explain how to Do It Yourself. Procedure is shown on photos above . See Question 4.

If you have a cat , the Portable Pet Door can be reduced in height for installation in a sliding window frame. The portable pet door is made of white melamine what means you can cut it to fit the height of your window .
Remember to check the width of the fixed channel in the window frame as it should be a minimum of 17mm.
If the width of the fixed channel in the window frame is less than 17 mm , you will need to make adjustments. Adjustment rails are optional.

We provide a simple but efective lock to secure your sliding patio door . We recommend , due to security reasons, to fix it on the top rail (no drilling or cutting , you just screw it on the top rail .
(see photo below)

It will cause no damage to your door) . If you already have an extra security lock on your door you can also use this. You only have to add a new hole. For additional security (THIS IS STONGLY RECOMMENDED ) place also a stick behind the sliding door to prevent it from further opening.

How does it work ! After installing the portable pet door , close glass sliding door and screw the lock that comes with the portable pet door behind the glass sliding door to prevent further opening. ( there is no instalation , cutting or drilling. The whole procedure of installing the lock does not take more than few seconds)

As additional security put a stick behind the glass sliding door and that is all.

Supplied "Thumb Lock" installed on the top rail behind the glass sliding door works as security lock. See detail on photo below.

The flap on Portable Pet Door can be locked by drilling a hole in places as shown on drawing and placing a dowel in it .
If the flap is on "inside" side the dowels will act so that it would alow your pet to enter the house but will prevent it from going out.

The Portable Pet door comes only in white.
Flap comes only in clear plexiglas.
Aluminium trim comes in powdercoated white or natural.

Safety issues .

After instalation make sure that the Portable pet door is sitting firmly in the sliding door track.
If not installed properly and if not sitting firmly in the rail the pet door panel could fall out and break or even injure your pet.

The Portable Pet Door IS NOT DESIGNED TI BE INSTALLED INTO FLY SCREEN TRACKS as the opening for fly screen is usually bigger then for glass sliding door and also do not provide necessary support for the pet door panel. .

For safety reasons do not install the Portable pet door on any sliding doors leading to a swimming pool.

Altough the size of the opening has been carefully chosen to prevent anyone entering the house through the Portable pet door , the Pet Door may increase risk of theft .
