The Portable pet door is designed for aluminium sliding doors, although , with additional rails that we supply upon demand, it can also be used with timber sliding doors.
With additional rails it can even be used with bi fold doors where two panels of glass sliding door meet and The portable pet door is installed between them.With some limitations , and with additional rails can be used inside security screen doors. Security screen doors are usually located outside and are slightly taller than Glass sliding door , next to it. They usually do not have rails like glass sliding doors and because of this additional rails need to be installed. It is not designed for hinged doors.

If you are renting a premises you are usually not allowed to cut openings or make any permanent alterations to the patio door. With the Portable pet door you do not need to. We make our pet door to fit most of sliding door wihout any alterations.

Portable pet door works out much more cost efficient than a standard pet door because to have an opening cut into toughened glass panel of your glass sliding door requires specialised technique, tools and tradesman. This will not only leave permanent hole in your glass sliding door but will also cost more than the The portable pet door.

The Portable pet door is "portable" . It means you can put it in any other sliding door . You can even lend it to a friend.

This model of Portable Pet Door is designed to fit a great majority of sliding patio doors with a height of 204 cm without adjustments.
Even if your door is 206 cm we will send you at no costs simple extension for minor height adjustment.

If your glass sliding door is 210 cm or more we can make extension to match ANY HIGHT . Extensions cost depending on the size. Extensions are optional and are delivered upon request only.

The Portable pet door is made from 16mm thick waterproof white melamine . It is weather safe.
Flap is made of solid , 3mm thick , clear plexiglass.
Note : In order to protect it during shipping it comes with protective coating which needs to be peeled off.
For extra strength , we have put metal trims along vertical edges.

Dimensions of the pet flap are :

SMALL : 16.2 cm wide x 30cm high .
MEDIUM : 20.5 cm wide x 37cm high. - see photo below !

To test , open your sliding door to 16 cm ( or 20.5 cm for medium size) and encourage your dog to go through. If your dog can go through he will also be able to use the Portable ped door.

If you have a cat , the Portable Pet Door can be reduced in height for installation in a sliding window frame.
Remember to check the width of the fixed channel in the window frame as it should be a minimum of 17mm.
If the width of the fixed channel in the window frame is less than 17 mm , you will need to make adjustments. Adjustment rails are optional.

The Portable Pet door comes only in white.
Flap comes only in clear plexiglas.
Aluminium trims come in powdercoated white.

Glass sliding door is sliding on top of a nib inside bottom track.
Hight of your door is the hight between top of that nib and top of
sliding door. Standard size is between 203 and 204 cm.

Vertical sides of top and bottom rail are holding a sliding door in
place and they also give support to the portable pet door.
Fly screen doors do not have same track as glass sliding door and they can not give support to the portable pet door unless an additional track to give this extra support.
Gap between the top of the sliding door and top rail is important because it enables us to lift glass sliding door and if necessary take it out. The same is with portable pet door. If we want to fix the portable pet door so it can not be removed ( we call it semi permanent) we need to block this gap so the portable pet door can not be lifted and removed. This will also give additional stability to the portable pet door in everyday use and we recommend it.
We have designed metal cap that fits our pet doors and can be used to extend the panel height after the portable pet door has been installed making it semi permanent. This extension cap is not included in our standard package but can be purchased separately .

If your glass sliding door is taller than standard door ( 204 cm) you will need extension .
Depending on the height of your door there are 2 types of extensions.

1. Metal extension for doors up to 212cm in height and

2. Melamine extension for doors more than 212 cm ( usually 240cm or more) .

We provide a simple but efective lock to secure your sliding patio door . We recommend , due to security reasons, to fix it on the top rail (no drilling or cutting , you just screw it on the top rail ,
see photo below) . It will cause no damage to your door .

If you already have an extra security lock on your door you can also use this. You only have to add a new hole. For additional security (THIS IS STONGLY RECOMMENDED ) place also a stick behind the sliding door to prevent it from further opening.

How does it work ! After installing the portable pet door , close glass sliding door and screw the lock that comes with the portable pet door behind the glass sliding door to prevent further opening. ( there is no instalation , cutting or drilling. The whole procedure of installing the lock does not take more than few seconds)

As additional security put a stick behind the glass sliding door and that is all.

Supplied "Thumb Lock" installed on the top rail behind the glass sliding door works as security lock. See detail on photo below.

Normaly pet door panel , when the sliding door is closed is supported on 3 sides by the door frame rails. On top , at the bottom and on one vertical side. The side where the portable pet door meets glass sliding door does not have any support as the panel buts against the sliding door.

We can provide an extra aluminium rail that you fix with screws to the sliding door , as shown on photos on example of timber sliding doors . See below - Draft prevention.

Additional rails will add extra security and strength to the panel although it is already reinforced with aluminium "U" trims along both vertical sides.
You can also instead of using portable "thumb lock" install security lock ( window lock) which you can byu from any hardware store or even BigW or Coles. If you already have security lock on your sliding door all you need is to drill another hole for portable pet dor.

Yes you can . You will need to install additional rails .

You can not use our thumb lock and your door probably does not have security lock at all. In this case you have to "improvise" and make an security lock on your own.

On photos below we have shown one of ways of doing it. Disadvantage of this method is that the door can not be easily unlocked , because screws have to be unscrewed first.

Better solution would be to install the window security lock in the sliding door as it is done by window locks.

Issues with door frames.

Some Door frames are not perfectly plumb which will result in a gap between
the pet door panel and the door, as shown on following photo.

This problem can be easily solved by fixing matching vertical rail onto the sliding door
so the Portable pet door wil fit into this rail.
Following photos are shoring sliding door before the additional vertical rail has been
installed and after it has been installed.

Photo below shows how the pet door panel fits inside vertical rail and that there
is no gap between the sliding door and the Pet door panel.

This additional aluminium rail not only prevents draft and makes the contact between the
pet door panel look niter but also adds more strength to the conection with the sliding door.
Some Sliding doors do not have any vertical rails so the portable pet door does not sit very
tight inside door frame. In this case additional rails can be installed ( fixed) onto timber
sliding door as well as onto the door frame as shown on following photos.

Pet door fits nitely into new vertical rails.

Safety issues . After instalation make sure that the Portable pet door is sitting firmly in the sliding door track.
If not installed properly and if not sitting firmly in the rail the pet door panel could fall out and break or even injure your pet. The Portable Pet Door IS NOT DESIGNED TI BE INSTALLED INTO FLY SCREEN TRACKS as the opening for fly screen is usually bigger then for glass sliding door and also do not provide necessary support for the pet door panel. . CLICK HEREFor safety reasons do not install the Portable pet door on any sliding doors leading to a swimming pool.

Altough the size of the opening has been carefully chosen to prevent anyone entering the house through the Portable pet door , the Pet Door may increase risk of theft .We will not be liable to any loss or damage caused by the fitting and use of the Portable pet door.
